we don't have tails. if our ancestors had 1 or 2 tails and lost it, the tails would still be in their DNA and their child would have that tail, and so on. plus if we are fish we wouldn't be mammals. so it's science vs. science
I think it means that some of the most basic forms of life were these fish. Some evolved lungs, legs, and started evolving from there once they started leaving the water every so often. Eventually, apes and monkey primates came along, which then evolved to ancient humans. It sounds bizarre thinking our ancestors were once fish, but it really is a matter of evolution, and time.
